LANXESS has created Baynox, an innovative additive for modern biofuels. It prevents the formation of insoluble polymers in biodiesel and plays a key role in the growing market success of many small and large biodiesel producers.
Biodiesel is usually made of canola oil, waste fat, animal fat or palm oil. Like virtually all fatty foods, it is prone to rancidity: oxygen in the air and slightly increased temperatures inside fuel or storage tanks are enough to gradually turn non-stabilized biodiesel rancid. This releases free fatty acids that are corrosive and can damage the engine. Baynox, however, is specifically designed to stop the process of decomposition in biodiesel.
