Suddenly, it had become dark: On March 28, from 8.30 pm – 9.30 pm, hundreds of millions of people in over 4,000 cities and towns in 88 countries turned off their lights to set an example against the climate change. In Singapore alone, more than 25,000 people and 500 schools, malls, hotels and companies supported the “Earth Hour 2009” – LANXESS Singapore as well.
The World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF), who organized this global energy conservation effort, has now recognized LANXESS Pte Ltd and LANXESS Butyl Ptd Ltd for their efforts in supporting the Earth Hour.
Ian Wood, Managing Director for LANXESS Pte Ltd and Uwe Boltersdorf, Site Manager, LANXESS Butyl Pte Ltd, had sent letters to all employees in Singapore urging them to pledge their support for this good cause. The employees’ response was compelling and so they joined forces to combat climate change.
