Singapore - Barely a month after successfully completing 3 million man hours without lost time injury (LTI), German specialty chemicals company LANXESS celebrated 4 million man hours without LTI at its butyl rubber (BTR) plant in Jurong Island.

This latest construction safety landmark means the EUR 400 million plant – which broke ground for its construction in May 2010 – is well on schedule to meet production start in Q1 2013.

Currently, all underground services plus the reactors and equipment for the isobutylene plant have been fully installed, with the site cooling tower structure completed as well. The administrative office and staff canteen on the sprawling 200,000 square meter plant are also nearly finished. Every day, on average, there are around 2,000 people working towards the completion of the site. 

Dr Ron Commander, Head of LANXESS business unit Butyl Rubber said “The timing of this latest safety landmark cannot be more auspicious as it comes around the period of the Lunar New Year entering into the year of the Dragon. Credit must go out to the entire project team for having upheld the stringent safety standards and practices.”
