LANXESS showcases innovative water technologies at VietWater 2016
Vietnam, November 9, 2016 – Specialty chemicals company LANXESS is participating this year for the first time in the VietWater, held at the Saigon Exhibition & Convention Centre (SECC), Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam from November 9 to 11, 2016, as part of a joint booth organized by German Water Partnership. The exhibition is dedicated to showcase LANXESS’ integrated one-stop solutions and extensive technical expertise to help overcome the water resource challenges Vietnam faces today, and to create a sustainable living environment.
“As one of the leading trade fairs for the water industry in the Asean market, Vietwater is the ideal platform for expanding our market presence and to cultivate customer relationships with our regional customers. We want to present ourselves as a competent and reliable partner to the water industry,” Jean-Marc Vesselle, Head of Liquid Purification Technologies business unit of LANXESS, commented.
Mark Seah, Regional Sales Manager at LANXESS Singapore, shared that the Asian region in particular faces major challenges in water management. At the same time, he expects significant and sustainable market growth in the region as well: “With the tightening of environmental legislation and emphasis on environmental conservation, more and more companies are looking into high-performance solutions for their waste water treatment processes.” Against this backdrop, Seah emphasized LANXESS’ commitment to improving water with its dedicated sales offices in many parts of ASEAN, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.
Quality water remains a concern
Despite rapid economic development globally, water quality continues to be a growing concern, even in Vietnam. A recent study reported that 7 million people living in Vietnam’s rural area have a severe risk of arsenic poisoning which can cause cancer, neurological and skin problems . River water quality has also been affected with only 4 percent of waste water being treated.
This is where LANXESS’ synthetic iron oxides adsorbers for water treatment marketed under the Bayoxide® brand – the latest addition to the Liquid Purification Technologies (LPT) business unit - would be an ideal application. Showcased at the booth, the Bayoxide E 33 is a key product from the Bayoxide E range for removing arsenic from water. This technical iron oxide hydroxide with the chemical formula FeO(OH) is ideal for eliminating arsenic and other ions from both drinking water and wastewater. Bayoxide E 33 granules are used in a continuous solid-bed process that routes the water through one or more filled containers and binds the arsenic quickly and selectively.
Quality Works: : High-grade solutions for the water industry
“We now have three different water treatment technologies, which puts us in a better position than virtually any other supplier to deliver customized solutions for users’ specific requirements,” Vesselle commented.
LANXESS is one of the few companies that offer both ion exchange resins and reverse osmosis membrane elements – two different yet complementary water treatment technologies, thus helping it provide complete solutions to the water challenges in Vietnam including wastewater treatment. With its recent portfolio expansion, LANXESS’ LPT business unit continues to provide quality services for the customers with its existing products – Lewatit® ion exchange resins, Lewabrane® RO membrane elements, and the LewaPlus® water treatment design platform.
Providing professional water treatment, the Lewatit® ion exchange resins help to isolate and remove dissolved particles from liquids. Ion exchange resins are also used for the removal of toxic substances from industrial waste water, as well as from groundwater. The production of ultra-pure water and steam contributes to a long operating life which increase operational reliability of machinery and equipment. In addition, Lewatit® is also necessary for the production of high quality food and beverages in Vietnam, such as crystal sugar and liquid sugar syrup. Lewatit® allows the brown cane sugar to be turned into the beloved white product and ensures that sugar also tastes like sugar. Other applications include soft drinks, yogurts, bread, beer, gummy bears and even toothpaste.
While membrane technology is very cost-efficient for water with a high salt content, ion exchange resins are essential for purifying water with low salt concentrations to the point where only trace amounts remain. With both methods connected in series, water of the highest purity can be produced. Lewabrane® membrane elements purify water by reverse osmosis (RO). The elements consist of spiral-wound thin-film composite membranes, which have been specifically developed for the treatment of brakish water and seawater. They guarantee an especially low salt passage and an improved organic compound retention. The membrane chemistry of reverse osmosis and element construction also ensure an optimized and especially cost-efficient production of drinking water.
With nearly 80 years of experience in the water treatment industry, LANXESS continues to provide innovative treatment solutions to help Vietnam move closer towards a more sustainable future - enhancing clean water for all.
LANXESS is present at booth A24 at the VietWater Expo & Forum from November 9 to 11, 2016 at the at the Saigon Exhibition & Convention Centre (SECC), Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam.
